Stop 12 - Story.m4a

Despite the opulent castles, "Broadway Terrace" never emerged as the elite section of town. Capitol Hill upstaged it with their much more ornate mansions. Many who invested in "Broadway Terrace" saw this and abandoned the south side for Capitol Hill. Others never recovered from the silver crash of 1893.  Within a few years they found themselves unable to afford their palaces.  New owners sometimes carved their houses into apartments. One of these mansions that still remains is the more modest home of Arthur Pierce. He was the co-founder of the South Denver Eye weekly newspaper. They had set up their final shop at 130 Broadway and included a printing press. The South Denver Eye was the main newspaper of the Town of South Denver. You can see his house still standing. (3)
