Known as the “Gateway to the City”, the area of Ohio/S Lincoln and Broadway is a main entrance into the city from most commuters traveling from the South of Denver. Currently, the entrance to the city is less than appealing and has been for several decades. Between 2015 - 2018, the City of Denver Recognized this and initiated the Broadway/Lincoln Corridor study. Throughout the process the need and vision for the neighborhood came to light. The study identified:
The need to introduce commuters that they are entering a neighborhood both through a streetscape redesign and enhanced signage.
An enhancement of a “South Gateway” from those traveling north on Broadway then onto S Lincoln
The need for a community park
Enhancements of the sidewalks to include stormwater planters.
Due to the lack of community amenities within the project zone the community feels strongly that the added benefit of a dog park or a welcoming community green space will:
Create a new amenity for the neighborhood.
Provide needed greenspace for all residents within .25 mile perimeter. Currently there are no parks within easy access to any of the various apartment buildings on the south side of I-25, nor for the residents within this zone.
Create an activated space at all times of day which will also help deter crime.
Engage neighbors through community interactions
Provide a space for neighbors to meet and become acquainted with each other which can result in greater positive feelings towards the neighborhood and enhance the sense of community and social capital.
